25 May 2013

It all started in 2009 when I first stepped onto the Flowrider. At the end of the same year, 1 month after picking up the sport, WaveLoch had their first ever International Competition in Singapore, their newest venue.

                                                                        THE 2010 1FC

Flowboarders from around the world came down to WaveHouse Sentosa and ripped the machines and I was in awe when the pro riders did their thang. So I trained hard to get qualified to get into Team SIngapore for the 2nd International event. WaveHouse Sentosa was again chosen as the venue. Pro athletes from Dubai, Chile, South Africa and the US came down to compete for the world title.

                                                              TEAM SINGAPORE 2010

                                                               TEAM SINGAPORE 2010

It was my first ever international competition and Team Singapore was an underdog. The requirement was all teams had tocompete on both the flowrider and the flowbarrel and the teams or individual who do well on both will win the Overall World Title.

   IFC 2010 CHAMPIONS

I was nervous competing for the world events but managed to pull through. I did pretty well on the flowrider and strapless flowbarrel and won the World Title. Was pretty stoked at that time and wasshocked tooo. That event changed my life and I called that special moment The Breakthrough.

I’m grateful that Wave House was brought into Singapore and we have both the Flowbarrel and the Double Flowrider. Some venue across the world have only either one of the wave machine. I started learning on the flowrider and then moved onto the barrel. If you ask me which I love most…I won’t be able to answer that question coz I love both equally.

TOP ASIAN RIDERS KICKING IT ON THE FLOWRIDER

The Flowrider is an elevated flat sheet wave. The tricks you do on the Flowrider are more towards skateboarding tricks like shuv, kickflips, ollie and the list goes on….. So I say, skateboarders who can get the basics of flowboarding will pick up the sport REAL fast.

As for the Flowbarrel, it looks more like surfing because of the whole barrel look. You can get barrelled for sure but it’s totally different from surfing altogether. The control and the technicality are somehow different…however, you can do surfing manuevers on the Flowbarrel like snap, round house cutback and aerial maneuvers like a backflip.

Everyone has their own passion. My passion happens to be in Flowboarding. For some who don’t have a clue on what is flowboarding….(this is what I got from the worldwideweb) Flowboarding is a late-20th century alternative boardsport incorporating elements of surfing, bodyboarding, skateboarding, skimboarding, snowboarding and wakeboarding. It really is a sport on it’s own…boardsport athletes of  the world thinks Flowboarding is easy to pick up and it’s just like surfing but it ain’t… Don’t get me wrong..I’m head over heels for surfing too but Flowboarding is just….different. There are 2 kind of sheet waves one is the flowrider, where riders execute skateboarding tricks, and the other is the flowbarrel, where tricks executed looks more like surfing.

                                                                THE FLOWBARREL

I discovered Flowboarding when I first walked in to Wave House Sentosa in 2009. It was love at first sight. I fell in love and never looked back ever since. Now I am riding for Billabong & Von Zipper and have won 2 world titles. Pretty insane..and i’m grateful and blessed. All thanks to Billabong and my sponsors for the crazy adventure and never to forget my family and E-in for the love and support… To my girls..Knees, Feeda & Rozainah.. Yes you ladies are my chosen family.
